Technology is rarely the limit.
In my experience, industrial digitalisation projects fail far more often because of how they are conceived than because of the limits of the tools. Three recurring mistakes:
Designed remotely
From a questionnaire or a call, not from a first-hand analysis on site.
Built for a stable network
Which on the shop floor always drops, and always at the worst possible moment.
Based on a template
Made for another factory, not for how the plant actually works.
Dashboards that freeze, data lost during a network outage, alarms that call people back to the plant even when there is no need.

Matteo Fiameni

I started on the shop floor: three years at an electronics manufacturer leading the SMT line, following the whole process from design and prototyping to series production. That is where I learned how a plant really works.
From there I moved into software development, then cloud and IoT. Today I am a Senior IoT Solutions Architect specialised in Industrial IoT, MES and OT/IT integration, leading both the technical side and the team. I work on real plants: sites where connectivity is unreliable and every design mistake is paid for in machine downtime.
I measure a project's success by what changes for the people who use it, not by how many features it ships. The best compliment a system can get is “I don't even think about it anymore”.
